Another book down for book club! I've so enjoyed reading this with you and having it spark discussion not only on the blog but also in person! I love the literary tribe that's growing.

If you've missed any prior Book Club get-togethers, head over to Book Club and catch up! Still haven't grabbed the book? It's not too late. Promise! Buy it here.

So let's chat the fifth and sixth section and your overall thoughts on the book. I find myself referencing Big Magic almost daily. I'm still riveted by her idea of showing up for creativity, letting it know you're willing to put in the work and dedicate your time, and allowing it a safe space to crash. I'm also still hung up on the idea that ideas find you, and if you are not receptive to them, they will find someone else.

What I love so much about this book is the way it takes the responsibility away from the individual. Yes, once your spark is lit you have to put in the work, but you aren't a failure if you're not 'feelin' it every day. Not even a little bit. I think that alleviates a lot of pressure!

Ending this book felt strange. I thought I would feel emboldened to move forward and pursue all of my passions, and to a certain extent, I do. But I also feel like I knew this knowledge all along and someone just opened my eyes to it. So while my brain knows more, my soul still feels the same.

What are your thoughts? How do you feel at the end of the book? What really irritated you? What has stayed with you? What do you want to chat about? What do you want to read next!

Let's chat in the comments below!

Book Club :: Elizabeth Gilbert's, Big Magic Part Four - Persistence

Today we are getting into Big Magic's fourth part, Persistence, and I'm really excited to hear your thoughts. What do you think about showing up for your craft? How do you tell it you're here to stay?

I think it can be really scary to be strong and to have passions and to go against the grain. Almost like mediocrity is the new normal, so is it even okay to want more? Where did wanting more almost make you less than or gossiped about? I think society likes us when we are stressed and anxious but has no idea how to handle us when we are brave and daring? How can you be more brave and daring?

What do you want to talk about?? Hop down to the comments and give it a whirl -- no thought too big, small, unwanted (within reason), or otherwise!

For March 4th let's read Part V. Xx.

Book Club :: Elizabeth Gilbert's, Big Magic Part Three - Permission

Today we're getting into Big Magic's third part, Permission, and, admittedly, I realize I jumped the gun last chat and asked some questions from this reading (aghhhhh gasp!). Seriously so sorry about not respecting that boundary - obviously I was feeling a pull towards these thoughts. So in doing so, we're going to use those questions as our basis for discussion this week.

I definitely struggle with "permission" in my life. I wonder if I'm too young, too female, too something that inhibits my growth, my ability to shine, or my availability to possible clients or readers. Which is so stinkin' silly, but still, here it sits. So I really want to chat about that today. What do you think you need permission for in your life? I'll let you in on a hint, no one is going to give it to you, so you might as well just freaking start.

For February 19th read Part IV, Persistence. Xx.

Question Time

Permission::

+ Have you been waiting for a permission slip? You don't need one, but if you're worried you do (like I am), as Elizabeth Gilbert writes, "THERE, I just gave it to you" (p. 90).

+ Right here, right now, declare your intent. Who are you?

I am a dreamer, a romantic, a writer, a yoga instructor, a guide, a health coach. I am all of this and even more. Now you!

+ What have you been complaining too much about?

Here are some of mine: I don't have a significant other; I'm not earning enough money; It's just not working. LAME. I'm only bringing more of that in my direction, so let's cut that out, K? K. Now you!

+ What do you think you give far more importance to than necessary? I'm thinking of the section "We Were Just a Band" from this part. Do you give too much importance to your craft in a way that makes it inauthentic or too demanding or too stressful?

+ Do you have a sacred space to explore your craft? Do you need to build more space in terms of a physical location or explore a space deeper within yourself? How can we help you?

Any other ideas?

That's all of the questions I have to spark conversation for now... Hop down to the comments and give it a whirl -- no thought too big, small, unwanted (within reason), or otherwise!
